LATE JUSTICE J.K.MATHUR

Late Justice JK Mathur had a deep interest in all aspects of law and specially methodology of judicial training. He was great a academician and had written various books and papers and was also a visiting professor to IIM Ahmedabad for a number of years. After his death on 2.2.02 his friends got together and decided that the greatest tribute to the departed soul would be if some constructive work is done, and in the process it was decided to start a lecture series to be addressed by hon'ble judges and eminent legal luminaries and that is how Justice JK Mathur Memorial Lecture Series commenced. The first Memorial lecture was delivered by Mr.Justice U.C Banerjee, Mr.Justice S.B.Sinha, Hon'ble Judges of the Supreme Court of India, in July 2000, the second Justice JK Mathur Memorial Lecture was delivered by Justice AS.Anand the then Chief Justice of India, the third lecture was delivered by Mr Soli Sorabjee and the Fourth by Mr.Justice M.N. Venkatchaliah, former Chief Justice of India. Justice S.B.Sinha delivered the fifth Memorial lecture on Disabilities-viz-Human Rights ,the sixth Memorial lecture was delivered by Justice Ruma Pal, the then Judge, Supreme Court of India, in January 2006 and lastly  the seventh Memorial lecture was delivered by Justice A.M.Ahmadi, former Chief Justice of India and Justice S.B.Sinha, Judge Supreme Court of India at Lucknow on 1.9.2007.

To continue the lecture series forward it was decided to create a Justice JK Mathur Memorial Trust so that each year a Memorial lecture could be held and also to publish a journal containing articles of eminent people in the field of law, which would be a small contribution to the legal fraternity in development of law. The key persons and the driving force behind these lecture series are Mr.Justice S.B.Sinha, Mr Avdhash Kaushal and Mr Justice U.C.Banerjee ,and the contribution of Mr Justice Brijesh Kumar, Mr Justice P.Kant and Mr.Justice Bhanwar Singh has been immense and continuous.  The Memorial Trust has been constituted with wideranging objectives to hold workshops, seminars, lectures etc and to publish periodicals, journals and books in the field of law. The humble beginning was made by the Memorial trust in holding the  Justice JK Mathur Memorial lectures and publishing the journal "THE TRIBUTE"containing mostly the previous Justice JK . Mathur Memorial Lectures held at Human Rights Centre, Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra, Dehradun.
